In November 2018, the Weidmüller plant in Suzhou, China, organised a voluntary environmental protection campaign along the "Ancient Moat Ring Fitness Trail". On this occasion, 40 volunteers from different departments collected a total of 67 kg of waste from nature along the path during a 15.6 km walk in 3.5 hours. In addition, the participants were divided into teams whose knowledge of the topic of sustainability was tested at different stations with various tasks. In the end, winning teams were determined from the points gained at the stations and the weight of the waste collected. This competition not only served the environment, it also promoted team spirit and cooperation in line with Weidmüller's slogan "Let's connect".

A big and joyful event took place in 2018: Weidmüller production in Suzhou moved into a newly constructed factory building. Despite many advantages of the new, state-of-the-art location, there were some challenges associated with the move. Initially, the air quality in the new factory hall was worse than at the old location. The reason for this was the consolidation of production from three buildings at the old site to one building at the new site. Now the task was to improve the air quality in the hall. In the course of this, Weidmüller has established an air purification system and made investments amounting to CNY 2.1 million (approx. 270,000 euros). The goal has been achieved: the air in the factory is clean, with air quality far exceeding the legal requirements. For example, the measurement results from 2019 showed that the air quality is twenty times better than required by law. This is positive for employees and the environment alike.

Air pollution is an acute problem in China, and industry bears a large share of the responsibility for addressing this challenge. In 2018, the government of Jiangsu province (which includes the city of Suzhou) set a target to reduce emissions and improve regional air quality by 2020. The Weidmüller plant in Suzhou has made its contribution towards fulfilling this goal.
