SNAP IN is Weidmüller’s tool-free connection technology for industrial wiring processes. Making the connection is as quick as a snap of the fingers: the stripped conductor is simply inserted directly into the open connection point. With just one click, the snap-fit connection locks into place—no tools required A visual and audible indicator signals that the connection has been established.
And it‘s just as fast the other way round. By simply actuating the pusher, the operator can open the connection point again and remove the connected conductor. The technology can also be integrated into robot-assisted processes. SNAP IN thus complements our efficient technology portfolio with a connection method for manual and automated wiring processes.

With SNAP IN, Weidmüller has secured an official
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™Read more title – and has thus impressively demonstrated just how quick and easy tool-free wiring can be.
This record is more than just a strong result. It demonstrates, under clearly defined conditions, the speed at which wiring can be carried out using SNAP IN.
The SNAP IN connection technology was awarded the Best of Industry Award 2024 in the Automation category. After five months of voting and over 20,000 votes cast, the award was presented at a glamorous awards ceremony.
SNAP IN revolutionises connection technology, making work processes faster, more precise and ready-to-robot. Our technology is not only ready for Industry 4.0, but is actively driving the future forward – with fully automated and robot-assisted wiring.
SNAP IN completely won over the "German Design Council", and the independent jury awarded Weidmüller the German Innovation Award 2022 for its innovative SNAP IN connection technology. The award recognises products and solutions across all sectors that are particularly user-centred and offer added value compared with previous solutions.
When it comes to recurring wiring tasks, every extra handle adds up. Fewer preparatory steps can reduce the time and materials required and streamline production and maintenance processes. This makes SNAP IN particularly relevant in areas such as control cabinet, machinery and plant engineering, where a large number of connections need to be processed efficiently.
At Weidmüller, thinking ahead is an integral part of electrical connectivity. Experience and a pioneering spirit consistently provide the pulse for new approaches that are tailored to our customers’ needs. SNAP IN embodies this commitment and demonstrates how a connection system gives rise to advanced products for industrial applications.
SNAP IN is Weidmüller’s tool-free connection technology for industrial wiring tasks. A pre-tensioned spring mechanism makes automatic contact with the inserted conductor as soon as it reaches the designated trigger point.
No tools are needed for connection. The stripped conductor is inserted into the open contact point and unlocks the pre-tensioned spring mechanism. To open again, press the designated pusher or lever, depending on the product.
SNAP IN is suitable for different types of conductors within the respective approved connection areas. Flexible conductors can be connected directly, even without wire-end ferrules. Depending on the product, conductors with wire-end ferrules and single conductors are also provided.
Yes, flexible conductors can be connected directly without the need for tools. SNAP IN ensures a secure and gas-tight connection, both for rigid conductors and for flexible conductors, with or without wire-end ferrules.
With SNAP IN, we enable a reduction in wiring time of up to 90 % compared with crimped screw terminals. The tool-free connection reduces the steps needed and offers a significant time saving, particularly in applications with a large number of connections.
No, SNAP IN works entirely tool-free. The stripped conductor is simply inserted and makes contact automatically.
The stripped conductor is plugged directly into the open contact point and clips into place automatically. The conductor to be connected contacts the contact point with a clearly audible “click”. The triggered contact point is also signalled visually by an increase in the pusher height.
The defined trigger point, together with the visual and audible status indicators, make it immediately apparent when contact has been made. This helps to minimise potential sources of error during connection and makes it easier to check the wiring status.
Yes, the simple and straightforward connection process makes the wiring reproducible and significantly reduces errors. The conductor is inserted all the way into the contact point – that is precisely when the SNAP IN mechanism engages.
Yes, SNAP IN is designed to meet industrial requirements relating to vibration and shock and has been tested in accordance with relevant standards such as UL 486E and IEC 61373. The spring mechanism ensures a permanently secure connection and meets the same requirements as those applicable to established spring connections, such as PUSH IN.
The officially approved number is around 20 insertion and removal cycles for plugs. In practice, it is often possible to carry out significantly more cycles.
To remove it, the conductor is released using a screwdriver or an appropriate tool. The spring is automatically re-tensioned in the process. An audible ‘click’ indicates that the connection is ready for the next SNAP IN connection – quick, secure and reliable.
Yes, SNAP IN is designed for automated wiring processes and supports the processing of pre-assembled conductors. In the case of the S-series SNAP IN terminal blocks, the product contours and conductor entry points are also designed for robot-assisted manufacturing processes.
With SNAP IN, a tool-free connection system can prove particularly beneficial in applications involving a large number of connection points and repetitive wiring tasks. As flexible conductors can be connected without crimped wire-end ferules and no tools are needed for the connection, certain preparatory and working steps can be omitted. This helps to reduce the time and materials required.
SNAP IN is particularly beneficial where there is a high level of wiring involved, as it reduces installation time, errors and rework. SNAP IN improves wiring efficiency, is simple to use and provides security.
SNAP IN enables significantly faster wiring, reduces errors and ensures a consistently high standard of quality in the connection process.
Furthermore, no tools are required, which makes installation easier.
SNAP IN builds on the principle of the PUSH IN direct connection. The contact point is pre-tensioned and makes contact with the conductor automatically as soon as it reaches the trigger point. This makes it possible, in particular, to connect flexible conductors without wire-end ferrule directly, without first engaging the contact point.
