Founding of the company by Carl August Weidmüller in Reichenbrand near Chemnitz. Weidmüller initially operated as a textile company before becoming the manufacturer of press studs a little later. The figure shows the illustration off a push-button system patent that Weidmüller registered in 1900. An early Weidmüller innovation.
Weidmüller was re-established in Detmold in 1948. The focus was no longer on textiles and press studs, but on electrical connectivity. in 1948, under the cable of Gottfried Gläsel, Weidmüller produced the first plastic-based terminal block after the company was re-established. In the early 1950s, the SAK terminal block series marked the beginning of a long-term product strategy that was to continue successfully for many years to come.
Weidmüller begins to open representative offices and group companies around the world. The group company in England started the ball rolling in 1959. Other major milestones included the establishment of group companies in Richmond, USA (1975) and China (1994), where Weidmüller now has a presence in Shanghai and Suzhou. In 2025, Weidmüller is represented in over 80 countries around the world.
With the stripax®, Weidmüller introduced a particularly functional wire stripping tool in 1976. Even today, stripax® remains an indispensable tool in many workshops – and is valued by panel building manufacturers around the world as a reliable classic.
In 2013, Weidmüller introduced a new remote-I/O system called u-remote. With its compact design and modular structure in particular, u-remote continues to set standards in automation technology to this day.
After Weidmüller launched its revolutionary PUSH IN wire connection system in 2005, the company surpassed itself in 2021 with SNAP IN, a new connection system that enables robot-assisted wiring processes, among other things.
