Even five years after the introduction of e-bike leasing for employees via Weidmüller, interest remains high. In 2020 alone, 116 new e-bikes were leased (as of December 2020). A total of 291 contracts ran in 2020. Employees can choose a bike from a large selection from various dealers, for which they then sign a 36-month contract, with Weidmüller supporting them with good conditions.
Apart from the health aspect, namely better fitness, there are other advantages to using a "company bike" to get to work. This way, a second car is often not needed in a household, and one is still independent of public transport, whose connections are usually poor, especially for shift workers. In contrast to a normal bike, you are less exhausted after a ride on an e-bike.
Above all, however, the environment benefits from the use of the e-bike
If we look at the CO2 emissions of e-bikes due to battery charging - according to statistical studies this is about 0.5 kg per 100 km - we see a clear difference to cars: the CO2 emissions of a current diesel VW Golf are 11.3 kg per 100 km (eBikeNews, January 2020 ). So even single days of taking the bike instead of the car for the average ten kilometres to work make a difference: if an employee takes the e-bike instead of the car five days a month from April to September, they cover an average of 600 km, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of only 2.8 kg instead of 67.8 kg. If each of the 291 e-bikers does this, emissions will be reduced by around 18.9 t in this six-month period.
The offer is very popular: in total, more than 450 e-bikes have been leased through the company in the five years, which are used both for business and private journeys.
