As a supplier of industrial connectivity and automation technology, we support the technological change required for sustainable development. Whether CO2-neutral mobility and production, renewable energy generation or smart, intelligent infrastructure - with our products and solutions, we enable the necessary supply and networking of intelligent systems, better resource efficiency and data transparency for our customers. In addition to innovations and industrial design, we focus on quality, application expertise and resource-saving production.

Product innovations

Innovations are a foundation for our future viability. That is why we invest in our innovative strength and continuously promote it - even in times of crisis. Our product development follows a detailed product innovation process. This ensures that our high standards of quality, environment and safety are always maintained.

Key figure calculation:

Number of employees in R&D (worldwide); R&D expenditure as a percentage of sales (worldwide).

Interpretation:

Despite the difficult global situation, R&D capacities grew in 2021. The downward trend in the R&D ratio is due to the disproportionate growth in 2021 and is still at a high level.

Vision:

R&D will remain a central topic for us in the future.

Note:

R&D stands for "Research and Development".

Product quality

The quality of our products is crucial for the satisfaction and safety of our customers. For this reason, we have been operating a certified quality management system according to DIN EN ISO 9001 since as early as 1992. For us, certification is more than conformity to standards; it expresses our attitude. This attitude is underlined by error prevention and the highest quality standards throughout the product development process, with potential risks being anticipated as early as the development phase.

Consistent quality testing along the product life cycle further ensures our product quality. Our in-house accredited laboratory comprehensively tests and inspects our products before launch. We are committed to continuous improvement. On this path, we are constantly pushing ourselves and further developing our technologies.

Safe and environmentally friendly product design

We attach great importance to ensuring that our products are always safe for people and the environment. It is also important to us that our products are as environmentally friendly as possible and that eco-design criteria (such as durability, reparability, energy efficiency, etc.) are already taken into account during development. For these reasons, every product development at Weidmüller must undergo an EHS workshop (EHS - Environment, Health and Safety) at a very early stage in the development process, in which products are tested and further developed with regard to their safety and environmental friendliness.

Key figure calculation:

Number of EHS workshops conducted (worldwide).

Interpretation:

EHS workshops in the product development process are established in all central locations, and the number is steadily increasing. In addition to the legal requirements, the workshops cover eco-design aspects. In addition, other product-related sustainability aspects are increasingly being addressed.

Vision:

The aim is to keep the number stable and to further develop the content of the workshops.

Note:

EHS stands for "Environment, Health & Safety".

Sustainable supply chain

Our supplier management system is based on a documented process for evaluating, qualifying and managing our suppliers. All suppliers must sign our Code of Conduct and, in addition to high quality standards, also meet our requirements for occupational safety, environmental protection and ethical conduct. This is regularly checked by certified auditors and improvement measures are jointly agreed. In doing so, Weidmüller strives for long-term partnerships and continuous improvement. Through this comprehensive supplier management process, we also ensure our ability to deliver and identify and avoid bottlenecks.

null

Key figure calculation:

Proportion of newly created suppliers audited in an onboarding audit (worldwide).

Interpretation:

In order to maintain delivery readiness due to the loss of suppliers as a result of the flood disaster in Germany in 2021, new suppliers had to be onboarded unplanned at short notice. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, numerous on-site audits of suppliers could not be carried out.

Vision:

Audit coverage of new suppliers is to be gradually increased, with a target of 80%.
