VSPA series – Signal protection for I&C applications

Exposed locations, large-scale installations, harsh environments, limited space in control cabinets and critical infrastructure all need compact, reliable and certified signal protection in this field of application.

Designed for industrial and process environments, the VSPA series prevents surges from causing failures and ensures fault-free signal transmission in measurement, control and regulation technology. With a width of 6.2 mm and the innovative SNAP IN connection technology, the modules can be installed quickly, securely and in a space-saving manner. Intelligent mechanisms for disconnection and testing also simplify maintenance.

With a width of just 6.2 mm, the modules protect analogue or digital signals. Universal modules for 24 V can be used flexibly with both signal types.

Technical data

  • Modules for analogue and digital signals
  • Universal modules for 24 V applications
  • Rated voltage: 5 V, 12 V, 24 V and 48 V
  • Modules for 2- or 3-conductor signals
  • Variants with floating ground and for high-frequency applications
  • Rated current of 800 mA and 20 kA discharge capacity
  • Temperature range from -40 °C to +80 °C

Fast wiring with SNAP IN

The SNAP IN connection system will take your wiring processes to a whole new level. With SNAP IN, installation and maintenance work can be performed as quickly as snapping your fingers. The connection is as simple in principle as it is to use: The stripped conductor is inserted directly into open connection points and the snap connection snaps into place with a click.

Central status monitoring

Remote monitoring of operational status plays a crucial role, particularly in the case of control cabinets that are difficult to access or where the status of several modules in control cabinets needs to be transmitted centrally.

Status module with ‘Light Beam’ function

An optional status module set (transmitter and receiver unit) enables the central monitoring of up to 40 protection modules via the ‘Light Beam’ function. In this process, an infrared light beam is sent by the status module through an opening in each of the individual modules.

Optical error detection

The pluggable arrester has a status window to provide a visual function indicator for its operating status. In the event of an overload, the patented cut-off device activates reliably and the signal protection status is displayed both visually and through haptic feedback on the protection module.

Status message to the controller

In the event of an overload, the opening is closed by the internal mechanism, thereby interrupting the light beam. The status module signals the fault status to the controller via a potential-free contact. The faulty arrester must be replaced.

The defective protection module can be quickly and easily detached from the base unit using a screwdriver and the release lever – without having to disassemble the base unit. This saves time and costs.

The infrared light remains on continuously as long as all connected protection modules are in good working order. The status module displays that it is operational via a green LED scale and signals its fault-free status to the higher-level controller via a potential-free contact.
