Weidmüller is active worldwide – and has been firmly rooted in Detmold for over 75 years. The city in East Westphalia-Lippe has a round 75,000 inhabitants. A good 315 kilometres separate Detmold from the German capital Berlin as the crow flies.
Did you know? Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the current President of Germany, was born in Detmold in 1956.
At 53 metres, the Hermann Monument is Germany's tallest statue – and has been the landmark of the Teutoburg Forest for 150 years. Clearly visible from Weidmüller's headquarters, Hermann even stood as the tallest statue in the western world until 1886. Surrounded by historic ground: this is where the Battle of Varus took place in 9 AD – Germanic tribes against the Romans, led by the Cheruscan prince Arminius, later known as Hermann, the man of the army.
Detmold is a real paradise for culture fans: the LWL open-air museum with 120 historic buildings is the largest of its kind in Germany – and a highlight throughout Europe. Right next door: the University of Music with students from 51 countries. The Landestheater is also a flagship institution, celebrating its 200th anniversary this year. And right in the middle: the Princely Residence, still the ancestral home of the Lippe family today.
The region round Detmold is known for its many (technology) companies. It is also known as "Terminal Block Valley" because it is home to the world's three leading manufacturers of electrical terminals, including Weidmüller. As the largest employer in Detmold, the family-owned company employs over 2,000 people there – high-tech from Detmold with love.
Please find out in good time which travel documents you will need. You can find information on this at the following website: Federal Foreign Office
