On May 5th 2014, Weidmüller, the German expert for electrical connectivity and electronics, and Iskra Zaščite, the Slovenian specialist for surge protection and power quality, started with the joint production of Surge Protective Devices in Logatec, close to the Slovenian capital city Ljubljana. The new production site is part of the Joint Venture, called ‘Weidmüller & IZ JV – A Joint Venture of Weidmüller and Iskra Zaščite’ which the two market leaders announced in November 2012. In the new facility with 1,320 m² of production and office area Weidmüller & IZ JV will produce Energy- as well as Control&Instrumentation-Surge Protective Devices. The products will be exclusively sold by Weidmüller. The investment in the joint production site underlines the full commitment by both partners to a long-term cooperation, combining the strengths of Weidmüller and Iskra Zaščite to deliver joint innovative developments and state-of-the-art technology to a rapidly evolving global market.

Ensuring long-term delivery capability
“The Joint Venture model of cooperation between the two companies presents a new way of marketing our knowledge. With this kind of cooperation we are fulfilling our strategy of developing products with high added value, which is not restricted completely to our own production. For the first time in our history, Iskra Zaščite will start to receive income from this business in the form of license fees and services. At the same time this is also one step further to an even closer cooperation with Weidmüller, and expected new possibilities for new development cooperation in further areas”, is confident Dr. Otmar Zorn, General Manager of Iskra Zaščite.
Growth expected over the next several years
Around 30 people will be employed in the first year, with substantial growth expected over the next several years. For both, Weidmüller and Iskra Zaščite, this Joint Venture underlines a future-proof connection to establish growth for both companies by joining forces to create new solutions.
