Process plants and their installation age and need to be replaced. A migration or an update of the PLC system become obligatory when these no longer fulfil the requirements for speed, reliability and scalability. If system links, support or spare parts availability are restricted, a system update is also required. When replacing PLC/DCS systems it is vital to avoid cabling errors and to keep plant downtimes to a minimum during the migration process.
With our configurable PLC migration interfaces and adapters, we enable you to safely exchange the control level by simply replacing the old control with the new one. Adaptations or changes to the infrastructure can be carried out quickly and simply without having to intervene in the field wiring. This reduces the time needed for the PLC migration by several weeks to a few hours – including the system test. As a result, plants can be back to normal operation after the shortest possible downtime.
Retrofitting made easy – the migration process
To prepare for the migration, the old cable connection to the PLC is first separated and the rack system is removed from the panel. The sensor actuator wiring via the terminal blocks are unaffected by this.
The new rack system takes the place of the old control so that no additional space is required in the panel.
The relevant front adapter is used in the rack system so that the existing PLC cable connections and an end of the new pre-mounted cables can be inserted as the next step.
In the last step, the rail with the new control is placed and connected to the other end of the pre-mounted cable.
