Whether it was with our innovative product FreeCon Contactless and our new safety modules for our u-remote remote I/O system, or with visits from politicians and representatives from the world of business, or direct exchanges with our customers and partners, once again this year, we presented a convincing image of our company through our innovations and our flair for recognising current market trends at the world’s largest industrial trade fair. This year, we provided ample evidence of our flair for recognising current market trends with our core themes of Industry 4.0, energy efficiency and safety in automation. These trend subjects were seized on and keenly discussed both at our trade fair booth with its live Industry 4.0 and u-remote applications, for example, and in the press.

Visits from politicians and representatives from the world of business
One of the highpoints of this year’s exhibition for us was the visit from EU Commissioner for Digital Economy & Society, Günther Oettinger, who discussed Industry 4.0 and the changes being brought about by the fourth industrial revolution with our CEO, Dr Peter Köhler. Plenty of other politicians and prominent figures also came along to our booth. As well as the Indian Consul General Mr Raveesh Kumar, others who took the opportunity to find out more about Weidmüller included District Administrator Friedel Heuwinkel, MEP Reinhard Bütikofer and Henning Kagermann, President of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering, Acatech.

At the annual press conference, the Weidmüller Group’s Executive Board also announced the company’s figures for the last year. Posting sales of EUR 673 million and growth of 5.1%, we achieved new record sales and grew above the industry average during the 2014 financial year – all thanks to our focus on growth markets and innovations. Sales increased in all regions. Japan (+116%), Hungary (+24%) and Spain (+17%) enjoyed particularly strong growth at country level. Germany, meanwhile, experienced stable growth at a rate of more than 2%.
Joint booth for the “It’s OWL” technology cluster attracts visitors
Amongst those who came to the “it’s OWL” joint booth were NRW’s Minister for Economics, Energy, Industry and Commerce, Garrelt Duin, and Dr Klaus Mittelbach, CEO of the German Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (ZVEI), who were interested in finding out about the research projects that are going on in the leading-edge cluster. They also took a look at our Demonstrator, a project initiated by our apprentices to illustrate the demands that Industry 4.0 places on training and education. Further highpoints included the presentation of the GreenTec Award to the company QMILK, which took place at our booth, the “Welcome to the future – a dialogue about the world of work 4.0” event from our HR team and our annual press conference, which was attended by almost 50 journalists from both Germany and abroad.
