Through the cooperation, Weidmüller will become a strategic partner of the company, in the market for railway cabling solutions.
Both companies want to make more use of their complementary solution portfolios. Weidmüller delivers the technical know-how for the connectors, HUBER+SUHNER delivers an extensive portfolio of signal, power and data transmission cables. Customers from the railway industry will benefit from the integrated solutions for their specific requirements.
Current projects that are being worked on jointly include cabling solutions for rail vehicles, plug-cable sets and complete connection systems. In this way, both companies are delivering fully tested complete solutions to the railway industry for the connection and transmission of power, signals and data. Weidmüller
Innovative connection systems: the professional cabling solutions from HUBER+SUHNER in combination with the latest electrical connectivity technology from Weidmüller
will contribute with its complete product line of modular cabling solutions. The main focus will be on the heavy-duty connectors from the new RockStar® ModuPlug product family as well as on customised solutions dependent on the railway carriage and the specific requirements.
WIN! What are the current trends in the railway sector Mr Saalmann?
Saalmann: Digitalisation and automation are on the increase in all applications across the railways. Topics include communication between equipment, like door and drive systems. The resulting increase in security means there is a greater need for communications on board and this can only be achieved by establishing more powerful communication paths in the train.
Detmar Saalmann, Global Industry Development Manager Transportation at Weidmüller, is pleased with the successful cooperation with HUBER+SUHNER
WIN! How does the cooperation with HUBER+SUHNER fit into this landscape?
Saalmann: As a partner in Industrial Connectivity, Weidmüller is the specialist when it comes to the transmission of power, signals and data. HUBER+SUHNER on the other hand is expert in the area of high-quality and innovative cable solutions. We’ve been observing each other in the market for a long time and we held extensive discussions before entering into the cooperation. After all, we came to the conclusion that it would make good sense to integrate our activities more closely, to be able to take a high-quality approach. Within the scope of the cooperation, we are working together on railway engineering projects and are offering high-quality connectivity such as system cabling, cable harnesses or cabling solutions as a package.
WIN! How does this fit with market trends?
Saalmann: One of the characteristics of the railway market is its globality, particular in the emerging countries. As a result, projects are almost always international. In addition, current trends are focussing on driving up efficiency and on export. If you want to be successful here, you have to adopt an international position with local production resources. And this is exactly the approach we’re taking through this cooperation.
WIN! How far does the cooperation go and what does it mean for other potential partners?
Saalmann: We’re cooperating and combining our market activities with HUBER+SUHNER in particular areas where we expect to be able to add value. But we’re still continuing to carry out projects with other partners, so we haven’t signed up for exclusivity. We want to create synergies without impacting on our ability to do business. We’ll cooperate where it makes sense for both parties.
