Higher speeds plus generally improved performance are among the core advantages of FDT2. The enhanced specification also increases IT security for installation and application, provides comprehensive PLC integration and supports all important networks in production and process automation.
As a member of the FDT Group, Weidmüller resolutely supports the new FDT2 specification – both with a FDT2 frame application – “WI Manager” – and with corresponding DTMs (device drivers). This offer from Weidmüller makes the company one of the first providers to supply a complete parameterisation solution in compliance with the latest technology for its PC-configurable ACT20 signal converters such as the ACT20C, with a whole range of practical advantages.

The software allows access to the network alongside point-to-point device configuration. This means users profit from integrated safety, online and offline configuration as well as an optimum documentation overview.
“A particular advantage when it comes to documentation is that WI Manager allows you to store and manage the parameters for all FDT-enabled switch cabinet devices in one centralised project file,” explains Hirsch. “This means that all settings can be made centrally. And if necessary they can be output as a PDF file for documentation purposes.”
The main advantages of the network connection include remote access to any network topologies, easy access to diagnostic and configuration data, and the many status monitoring options. This means that the technology makes a decisive contribution to Industry 4.0 concepts. In this respect, the OPC UA interface will also be a key component going forward, meaning that the standardised storage and processing of device data in higher-level systems will be exceptionally convenient.
