On its periphery, in the region around the town of Antofagasta, a complex of six photovoltaic systems is being built and operated by Rijn Capital Chile. In addition to the extraordinary dryness, what’s unusual is the installation’s height at 2,600 metres above sea level. These environmental conditions turn what would otherwise be normal technical demands into a real challenge.
“Installing photovoltaic systems at extreme heights is common in northern Chile due to its geographical conditions, moreover these regions are not normally usable for other purposes, and have one of the high if not highest irradiation level in the world,” explains Pablo Lo Zicchio, Weidmüller’s global projects photovoltaic specialist. “As a result, we have further developed our Transclinic 16i+ monitoring system for operation at heights up to 3,000 metres, which together with a temperature range of –25 up to +70°C makes our system solution ideal even when used under environmental conditions of superlatives.”
On this basis and within only a few weeks, Weidmüller could manufacture the combiner boxes with monitoring functions, specifically designed for this application, all fully certified and ready to use.
