Detmold, 12.12.2016. The Weidmüller Group has commenced construction work on its Customer & Technology Center (CTC) in Detmold. This follows the signing of an agreement with general contractor Köster GmbH for the joint implementation of the major construction project at the end of November. The new building complex will be built on the former Deckers site on Klingenbergstraße. With a total area of almost 12,000 square metres, it will offer space for over 400 employees. The construction of the CTC will enable Weidmüller to strengthen its headquarters in Ostwestfalen-Lippe. The ground-breaking ceremony is scheduled to take place in the first quarter of 2017.
With a total area of almost 12,000 square metres, the CTC will offer space for over 400 employees.
The electrical engineering specialist sees the expansion in Detmold as a strategic decision: “Our CTC is an important building block for the sustainability of our Detmold site, as well as Weidmüller’s appeal as an employer,” says Dr Peter Köhler, Chief Executive Officer of the Weidmüller Group. “Technological trends such as digitalisation and Industry 4.0, as well as the continued internationalisation of our markets and customers, require us to be globally networked and to adopt an interdisciplinary approach. Our new building will help us to achieve this.” Parts of the new building are also scheduled to house a customer centre. Jörg Timmermann, Chief Financial Officer of the Weidmüller Group, adds: “Our aim is to make our brand, our innovative strength as a solution provider and our strong customer focus accessible to visitors from all over the world in bundled form within the new building.”
In addition to modern architecture and equipment, the electrical engineering specialist is also placing a particular emphasis on energy-efficient building technology for the construction of the CTC, which will ensure sustainable day-to-day operations. Geothermal energy, for example, is scheduled to be used in order to vastly reduce the energy consumed for cooling and heating. In addition to the CTC, Weidmüller is also set to establish a university-linked innovation centre in Paderborn, which is designed to strengthen Weidmüller’s focus on development expertise and further expand its networking with universities, institutes and research facilities in the region.
