In conjunction with the Weidmüller marking software and EPLAN Electric P8, M-Print® PRO eCAD integrates reference labelling into the entire product development process, thereby optimising the downstream steps in particular.
The labelling information stipulated in the configuration is available throughout each phase of product development. This method specifically digitises the work steps requiring maximum precision, but which were hitherto carried out largely by hand. It therefore entails a great deal of potential for improving efficiency and quality during procurement, assembly and commissioning, as well as subsequent maintenance.
“Anyone currently producing plans without leveraging the intelligence of state-of-the-art eCAD systems is wasting valuable time during production,” claims Norbert Koch from Weidmüller, who supports panel and plant manufacturers as a sales expert for marking solutions. “Only meticulously detailed documentation completed with analysis runs really make the relationships in the panel transparent. Our customer Jenoptik is currently discovering what kind of efficiency improvement that means specifically. Its automotive division was already extremely flexible and process-optimised on the basis of Excel. Thanks to automated marking with M-Print® PRO eCAD, however, efficiency was improved to an even greater extent.”
Increasing complexity demands greater transparency
With its automotive division, Jenoptik ranks among the leading manufacturers of metrology and laser equipment for manufacturing processes in the automotive industry. In the business unit of laser processing, Jenoptik develops and manufactures 3-D laser machines which are integrated into complex production lines as part of process optimisation and automation. interconnected. Fault-free operation and, above all, transparency in the network of applications and interfaces, are critical success factors for the subsequent operator. Jenoptik ensures this with seamless identification of the equipment in the panel.
Substantial savings potential for installation and servicing
“As the central element in terms of functionality and technology, the panel constitutes the heart of the machine for us, alongside the mechanical processes,” explains Markus Remm, Head of Operations for Electronics and Software Development at Jenoptik. “Its simple production as well as good clarity constitute substantial savings potential for installation and servicing. Many customers for instance tell us that our approach of individual labelling of conductors helps them enormously with troubleshooting.”
Prior to deploying M-Print® PRO eCAD, Jenoptik produced printouts via in-house generated Excel macros. These were converted via the project data from EPLAN into M-Print® PRO files. “Maintaining and modifying these macros was extremely time-consuming for us,” reminisces Remm. “Today, the designer can generate the connection list in the EPLAN with ease, as well as the sequence of markers that need to be printed as a result. The electrician in turn can use the right markers at the right time and do so efficiently and with minimal idle time.”
