Bergmann Automotive has over 40 years of experience in the development and manufacture of cylinder liners and has thus accumulated significant expertise. As a market leader, the company offers its customers consistently high, certified and continuously assured quality throughout the development process – from the materials selected right through to the finished parts. Consequently, the requirements in terms of equipment and safety in the company's production facilities are considerable.
In order to ensure staff can leave the production hall safely if the lighting fails, the company needed to find a reliable emergency lighting system that could be integrated as easily as possible. It's not just escape routes that need the best possible lighting without delay in an emergency; first-aid areas and potentially dangerous points such as stairwells need it as well.
Easy installation, reliable operation, compliance with the latest standards and energy consumption kept to a minimum – these are the basic requirements that emergency lighting systems have to meet. By using Weidmüller's FieldPower® LED solution it was possible to develop a lighting system that offers much more than just ease of integration with the central power supply.

Beyond mere compliance – a well-designed lighting system for trouble-free operation
Compliance with the latest standards is an essential criterion when selecting safety-related systems. The
EN 60598-2-22 standard for emergency lighting systems stipulates specific requirements such as start-up time, light output and the quality of the lamps to be used. FieldPower® LED from Weidmüller complies with this standard but also impresses with additional user-friendly benefits and functions.
The full light output is available without delay when the system comes on. The light is flicker and glare free, thus providing ideal visibility along escape routes and in dangerous areas in emergencies, allowing them to be negotiated without risk of accidents. In addition, the long service life and robust housing of the lamps make them ideal for industrial applications. Bulbs rarely have to be replaced, and little maintenance is required.
In case of darkness and evacuation stairways can quickly become dangerous obstacles. With the emergency lighting system of FieldPower® LED you can illuminate dangerous areas also during power outage
“As the person responsible for service and maintenance, I felt it was critical to minimise installation times and ensure low energy consumption,” says Jürgen Lichthardt of Bergmann Automotive GmbH.
FieldPower® LED meets these requirements too.
Thanks to the integrated FieldPower® bus and IDC termination, the system can be installed extremely quickly and easily. And despite its constant availability, energy consumption is also considerably lower than for conventional fluorescent lamps.
Developed by practical engineers – proven in practice
“Our aim is to help our customers meet their everyday requirements and go beyond mere compliance with standards. Our expertise in connection technology and the requirements and experience of our own production people help us develop practical solutions such as FieldPower® LED,” explains Ulrich Trapp, Product Manager in the Application-Specific Solutions division at Weidmüller.
Thanks to this simple, flexible system, Bergmann Automotive was able to implement a test installation and carry out light measurements to find out where it was best to position the lamps. The first production hall was equipped with a total of 60 lamps at intervals of five metres. Work has already started on the installation of an emergency lighting system using FieldPower® LED in another production hall.
