Detmold, 30. March 2017. Seven different stations in three different cities over five days – the press trip of Deutsche Messe AG at the end of February to Poland, the partner country for the Hannover Messe, had plenty to offer the 20 or so representatives of the media, associations and business. One of the stations on the trip was Polish train manufacturer Newag in Nowy Sącz, which showcased the successful cooperation with German electrical engineering company Weidmüller in the high technology sector. "The cooperation between Newag and Weidmüller is an excellent example of how the chances of a product development being successful are increased if a company works with its customers in an open and constructive way," explains Witold Bereszczyński, Managing Director of Weidmüller in Poland, during the visit.
During the construction of the IMPULS trains at Newag, the technical challenge lay in adapting the high-quality high-current plug-in connector systems for traffic engineering to the exacting requirements in rail transport. "As we have been working very successfully with Newag since 2010, the company approached our sales representatives in Poland with this request," explains Bereszczyński."Despite the technically difficult starting position, the engineers here have worked together to develop a solution which fits in perfectly with the design of the Impuls range." Specifically, the product is the RockStar HighPower 550A heavy-duty connector from Weidmüller - a system which is also in use in the new ICE4 generation and is designed for the specific installation conditions in the underfloor area of trains.

Participants could see the benefits of the solution themselves during a tour of the production halls. As well as the assembly halls and the paint works, the programme also included the cable pre-assembly station featuring the product developed by the partners and a look at the fully installed solution underneath the trains. "The last ten years have been a massive success story for Newag, which is now on the way to becoming a high-technology provider," explains Marion Sommerwerck, Head of Corporate Communications at Weidmüller. "Participants were able to experience this development hands-on in production and were impressed by the high technical standards." Józef Michalik,Vice President of the Board at Newag, also noticed this: "We were pleased that the trade fair tour gave us the opportunity to showcase the current status of our research and development work to an international audience. Like Innotrans, the Hannover Messe is a good opportunity to promote our company abroad."
The press trip takes place every year in the run-up to the Hannover Messe and is organised by Deutsche Messe AG. The destination for the trip, which lasts several days, is always the annual partner country for the Hannover Messe and gives the journalists in-depth insights into the industry and the opportunity to speak to important representatives of associations and business.
