Insensitive to high inductive loads

For a long-life application the Polish brewery "Lezajsk Beer" is replacing the contactors utilised in its bottle-cleaning machine with Power Solid-State Relays from Weidmüller.

 

A member of the "Zywiec Group" the roots of the “Lezajsk Beer” brewery can be traced back to the year 1525. Master brewers have been perfecting Lezajsk beer for generations, which is one of the better known beers in Poland.

 

Numerous palettes loaded with crates of empties are placed in the brewery’s bottle cleaning system every day to clean the empty beer bottles. This task is performed by a crane, which all told carries out its positioning movements 1.1 million times a year. Originally, the hydraulic valves of the crane were switched by means of contactors. However, due to the high inductive loads the contactor contacts were constantly subjected to burn-out so that the contactors in this application have been unable to exceed an operational service life of more than two years. Far too often this resulted in unplanned standstills. The consequences in figures: When the crane is not operating for just one hour it means that 57 600 bottles can neither be cleaned nor subsequently filled.

 

Power Solid-State Relays offer a long-life solution

It is against this background that the "Lezajsk Beer" brewery began searching for a more durable solution, and came up trumps with Weidmüller’s three-phase Power Solid-State Relays. Not only are the solid-state relays insensitive to inductive loads they are also wear-free and totally silent. Following a successful trial of the components in the application the decision makers at "Lezajsk Beer" have decided to replace all of the contactors step-by-step with Power Solid-State Relays from Weidmüller.

 

The high levels of reliability of the newly introduced modules have enabled the brewery to significantly reduce its costs for the upkeep of the bottle cleaning plant. Production standstills or interruptions to operations due to burnt-out contacts are now a thing of the past.
